Congratulations to Twitter and Tweetmeme on today's launch of the Tweet Button, which will make sharing content quicker and simpler for users and publishers of all sizes. We couldn’t be more proud to be involved by having t.co featured as the official url shortener for counting tweets and sharing content with the Tweet Button.
As Twitter announced, more than 30 sites are already using the Tweet Button, including CNN.com, USAToday.com, Time.com, YouTube, Hulu, Gawker and HuffingtonPost.com. No doubt these content sites will appreciate the fact that the Tweet Button allows readers to see the original URL that was shared. We appreciate the fact that each of these URLs will be wrapped in the security enhanced t.co holster -- and generate widespread awareness of the .co domain in every corner of the world.
We’re hoping this is a precursor to Twitter’s long awaited analytics, as ReadWriteWeb surmised: “When Twitter launched native URL shortener t.co in June, it signaled that eventually all links would be wrapped in t.co as a way to protect users and keep track of links to determine if they are "relevant and interesting."
Website owners can grab the Tweet Button and add it to their site quickly and easily. Here's a video from Twitter that shows you how.
Stay tuned for more interesting developments on t.co, the Tweet Button, and all the other fabulous things happening with .CO!
