Internet Week NY began today and the excitement only grew throughout the day. I think I can speak for the .CO team in saying that we felt especially honored to celebrate the Internet in a unique way. Noon marked the beginning of our first ever domain auction and all the proceeds go to a charity of the winner's choice! The great thing is we are giving everyone, the world over, the opportunity to but a rare and historic piece of online realestate: e.CO!

Internet Week's purpose is to celebrate the Internet, and I think this auction is the perfect way to do that. I find particular meaning in e.CO because of the history "e" has with the Web. In 25 years "e" has changed the world. The trend of going digital began with electronic, from e-mail to e-commerce. Today "e" is evolving with meaning seeded in entrepruneurship, enterprise, education, ecosystems and numerous other alternatives. I can't wait to see what the winner does with this super short Web address, but the true thrill will be seeing what deserving charity will benefit from this auction. By the end of day-one the high bid was $17,000! With two more days to go I can't wait to see the result.
