Yesterday, Google announced that the .CO TLD will have all the same geo-targeting options available to the other generic TLDs, such as .com, .net, .biz and .org.
"We will rank .co domains appropriately if the content is globally targeted. Webmasters will soon have the functionality to be able to specify this by using the geotargeting options in Google Webmaster Tools," said a Google spokesperson, as quoted in PC Pro in a July 22nd article.
This was then confirmed by Andrew Allemann of Domain Name Wire in his blog about .CO on the same day who spoke with another Google representative that confirmed the news.
This is great for all! Now, .CO websites can be targeted to meet your business and communication needs anywhere around the world!
Anything is possible in the .CO era.

It all comes down to content, on page and off page seo , back linking etc, etc. Which means having a domain name with your keywords in it will do you wonders!
This is really a good news looking forward for the .CO GEO option..

It's official now (and live in GoogleWebmaster Tools)! I moved my first DotCO domain over to the USA tonight.
Google's Webmaster Tools has gone live with geotargeting for .CO -- no longer restricted to Colombia. FYI.
You can now change the geo-targeting in google for .co domains.
This is official now, and you can do it in your Webmaster settings. See this link for a how-to video:

so it looks like it is true. google is treating .co with the same level of .com
I discovered this by checking my google webmaster account and noticed that geo targeting could now be changed.
Hey Guys, this is now available. I have just geo-targeted my .co domain. Regards, WaxFrog
I am experiencing the same issues...my google webmaster tools accont shows the geotargeting set for columbia. Is there defintive evidence which indicates that google is really allowing dotco to be generic?
PC Pro is not google, or perhaps this is a marketing plan by dotco to legitmitize the dotco brand.
without google support these domains are worthless.
Its a great news that .co can be targeted globally and this is the right time to grab catch .co domains because every knows its very hard to find (.com) domains. Ultimately I got 3 .co domains out of 10 .co domains placed in pre-registration time and they are www.cookery.co | www.submit.co | www.oceani.co | www.preg.co ( short form of pregnancy.co & pregnant.co are reserved names ) and planning to sell them for good offer.

This is good news however in my opinion they should just make the change automatic, being that lots of web masters literally have never heard of Google webmaster tools. co-domainnames.co
Great news for investors :-)))
My .CO is now searchable on Google, however I am unable to change it's geotarget from Columbia. I don't see an option on Google to change it, where normally this is under Webmaster Tools, Site Configuration, Settings.

It would seem there is a problem.
I find it funny that people are so blind. Here internet history is about to unfold.
Looking forward to the upcoming .go (from google) domain name extension.
would be nice to officially hear this from google. everyday I check my geo targeting and still can not update.
If this is true ,it’s very good

While I respect the views of PCPRO and authors of such reputed journals, this leaves me and many other people at doubt that has Google announced this via any official communication?
Everybody is quoting PCPRO and they are quoting "somebody" from Google.
At least,a blog from the registry itself should have some veracity on the news IMHO!
